Blackwater, QLD – July 20, 2025: Four people, including two young children, have died and two others are critically injured following a devastating head-on collision in Central Queensland on Sunday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the Capricornia Highway, between Comet and Blackwater, just before 11:00am, after reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Queensland Police said initial investigations suggest a Holden Commodore, travelling toward Blackwater, collided head-on with a Toyota Hilux ute coming from the opposite direction.
Tragically, the 28-year-old male driver of the Holden, along with three passengers — a 6-year-old boy, a 7-year-old girl, and a 32-year-old man — died at the scene.
Two men travelling in the Hilux sustained serious injuries. A 28-year-old man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition, while a 27-year-old man was airlifted to Brisbane in critical condition with life-threatening chest and abdominal injuries.
The Capricorn Highway remains closed in both directions, with police stating it is expected to remain shut well into the evening due to the scale and complexity of the incident.
“No further information is available at this time,” police said. Investigations are ongoing.
