Darwin, 03 september- The Trump administration has nominated senior diplomat Brent Christensen as the next United States ambassador to Bangladesh.
The White House confirmed the nomination on Tuesday after it was sent to the Senate for confirmation issued the same day.
Christensen, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Counselor, has extensive experience in key diplomatic assignments across Asia. He is expected to play a central role in advancing US-Bangladesh ties, particularly in areas such as trade, defense cooperation, and regional security.
Pending Senate confirmation, he is slated to serve as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
In a related announcement, the White House also nominated Sergio Gor of Florida to serve as the US ambassador to India.
Currently, Ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson is serving as the Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Dhaka, having assumed her duties on January 11, 2025.
A career member of the Senior Foreign Service, she previously served as a Senior Advisor in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs and as Chargé d’affaires, ad interim, at the US Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
