Darwin, 25 October— Bollywood’s ongoing conversation about fidelity and relationships took a dramatic turn after actors Kajol and Twinkle Khanna expressed surprisingly liberal views on one-night stands. Their remarks — made during the latest episode of Too Much With Kajol and Twinkle — sparked heated debate across social media. However, it was Janhvi Kapoor’s dissenting voice that captured the spotlight, earning widespread praise for her firm stance.
During the candid chat, Kajol and Twinkle argued that physical infidelity isn’t as painful as emotional betrayal. “Raat gayi, baat gayi (Once the night is over, let it go),” Kajol said with a laugh, suggesting that a one-night affair doesn’t necessarily destroy a relationship. Twinkle nodded in agreement, saying, “Emotional cheating hurts more than physical betrayal.” Filmmaker Karan Johar, also present on the show, echoed their sentiments, joking, “Physical unfaithfulness doesn’t end a relationship — sometimes, you just catch a cold,” prompting laughter from the audience.
But Janhvi Kapoor, representing a younger generation of actors, respectfully disagreed. “Both are wrong,” she said firmly. “You can’t compare or justify one over the other.” Her response — calm yet uncompromising — resonated strongly with viewers, especially Gen Z audiences who applauded her conviction.
Twinkle lightheartedly teased her, saying, “Janhvi is still young. When she turns 50, she’ll agree with us. With age comes perspective.” Kajol supported Twinkle’s view, explaining that while physical mistakes might be forgivable, emotional detachment is harder to overcome.
This isn’t the first time Bollywood celebrities have spoken openly about infidelity. Years ago, Neetu Kapoor admitted in an interview that she was aware of Rishi Kapoor’s flirtations and brief affairs during outdoor shoots. “But I knew they never lasted. We were too dependent on each other to let that come between us,” she had said, adding that men deserve “a little freedom.”
Mahip Kapoor once revealed on a Netflix show that she had briefly left husband Sanjay Kapoor after learning he had cheated. “I stood up for my self-respect, but as a mother, my priority was my daughter Shanaya. I knew Sanjay was a great father, and I didn’t want lifelong regret,” she shared.
Actor Aditya Pancholi’s wife Zarina Wahab had also once said, “I never question him about anything. What matters to me is how he treats me when he’s home. Even if I knew something, I wouldn’t ask. Questions remove fear — and I don’t want to lose that fear.”
Even the late legendary actor Dilip Kumar admitted in his autobiography that he had once betrayed Saira Banu, but the couple chose to bury that chapter “in the darkness of forgotten memories.”
In contrast, Janhvi Kapoor’s uncompromising position — that both emotional and physical betrayal are equally unacceptable — has made her an unexpected voice of integrity and strength among today’s young audience. While Kajol and Twinkle’s remarks drew criticism for normalizing infidelity, Janhvi’s clarity and conviction have earned her widespread admiration online.
Social media reaction:
“Janhvi just spoke what our generation feels — cheating is cheating, no matter what form.”
“Kajol and Twinkle sound too casual about something deeply hurtful.”
As one user put it: “Experience may change perspectives, but honesty doesn’t need age — Janhvi proved that.”
