The King of Pop’s enduring global appeal has been undeniably confirmed, as the trailer for Lionsgate’s upcoming biopic, “Michael,” has utterly decimated viewing records.
The teaser for the Michael Jackson film racked up an astonishing 116.2 million views worldwide within its first 24 hours of release, making it the most-watched trailer for a musical biopic in history.
Record-Breaking Demand
The performance of the Michael trailer signals massive audience hunger for the film, set for release on April 24, 2026.
The trailer not only broke the record for musical biopics but also became the most-viewed Lionsgate trailer ever, outperforming the studio’s previous record-holder, “John Wick: Chapter 4”, by over 50 percent in the first six hours alone.
Lionsgate’s group chair, Adam Fogelson, attributed the success to public anticipation and the lead performance. “People have been waiting a long time for this. I think audiences are stunned by Jaafar [Jackson]’s performance,” Fogelson said.
The trailer’s viewership easily eclipsed previous music biopic launches:
Film Trailer : 24-Hour Views (Millions)
Michael : 116.2
Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour : 96.1
Bob Marley: One Love : 60.1
Bohemian Rhapsody :57.6
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, Michael stars the late icon’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, and is poised to be one of the biggest box-office events of 2026.
