Bhutanese PM Concludes State Visit to Bangladesh

DHAKA —  Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay departed from Dhaka this morning, concluding a successful two-day state visit aimed at cementing bilateral ties and strategic cooperation with Bangladesh.

The Prime Minister’s flight for Thimphu departed Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at approximately 8:30 am. He was seen off by Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Commerce Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, according to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing. In line with state protocol, the Bhutanese Prime Minister was accorded a static guard of honour before boarding his flight.

The highlight of the state visit was the signing of two pivotal Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), which promise to enhance critical cooperation between the two friendly nations.

An MoU on the Appointment of Health Workforce was signed, paving the way for collaboration in the health sector, potentially facilitating the deployment of Bangladeshi healthcare professionals to Bhutan.

A second MoU was inked concerning the Trade of International Internet Bandwidth and Other Telecommunication Services, a move expected to boost Bhutan’s digital connectivity via Bangladesh.

These agreements were formalized following a series of high-level engagements, including formal bilateral talks with Bangladesh Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at his office in Tejgaon. Prime Minister Tobgay’s schedule also included separate meetings with key government officials, advisers, and political leaders, focusing on the entire spectrum of bilateral relations, from trade to investment.
