Jamaat Bans Motorcycle Rallies

DHAKA —  Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman today imposed an immediate and comprehensive ban on the use of motorcycle rallies and motorcades in all party election campaigns across the country. The directive comes in response to recent accidents, including a tragic fatality that occurred in Satkhira during a campaign motorcade.

The party’s Secretary General issued a statement confirming the order: “In the wake of several accidents and injuries during these programmes, the Jamaat ameer has imposed a ban on motorcycle rallies and motorcades in all district and metropolitan constituencies, effective immediately.”

The catalyst for the nation-wide ban was the death of Fazor Ali, a 73-year-old elderly man who was killed after being struck by a motorcycle.

The incident occurred on November 22 in the Badamtala Bazar area of Alipur union, under Sadar Upazila in Satkhira. The motorcycle was part of a rally led by Jamaat-e-Islami’s nominated candidate and central organisational secretary, Muhaddis Abdul Khalek.

Dr. Rahman’s instruction effectively cancels a popular form of electioneering for the party across all metropolitan and district constituencies as the country prepares for the upcoming national election. The decision highlights the party leadership’s move to prioritize public safety and mitigate risks associated with large, vehicular political processions following the recent incidents.
