Tarique Rahman Files Nomination for Dhaka-17 in 13th National Election

DHAKA : The political landscape of the capital has reached a new fever pitch as nomination papers were formally submitted today on behalf of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman for the Dhaka-17 constituency.

The documents were filed at approximately 12:00 PM at the office of the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner in Segunbagicha. The submission was carried out by Abdus Salam, Advisor to the BNP Chairperson, alongside Professor Dr. Farhad Halim Donar, Chief Advisor of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB).

The filing comes just days after Tarique Rahman returned to Bangladesh following 17 years in exile. On Saturday, he was officially registered as a voter for the Dhaka-17 seat, and yesterday, party representatives collected the nomination papers following a strong consensus among senior BNP leadership that he should contest from this prestigious capital seat.

Addressing journalists after the filing, Abdus Salam noted the enthusiastic reception from city residents. “The people of Dhaka have warmly welcomed Tarique Rahman after nearly two decades. We anticipate a spontaneous and overwhelming turnout for him in the February 12 election,” Salam stated.

The Dhaka-17 seat, which encompasses some of the city’s most critical areas, is now poised to be one of the most watched battles in the upcoming 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
