Sports Desk: Lionel Messi has added two more milestones to his illustrious career after being officially recognized by Guinness World Records for two remarkable achievements at the FIFA World Cup.
Guinness World Records confirmed the honors in a statement on Wednesday and later shared the news across its official social media platforms.
According to Guinness, Messi now holds the record for the most direct goal contributions in FIFA World Cup history. The Argentine captain has been directly involved in 21 World Cup goals, combining both goals and assists.
The 39-year-old has also been awarded the record for scoring in the most consecutive FIFA World Cup matches. Messi found the net in nine straight World Cup appearances, earning official recognition for the feat.
The Argentine legend has been in sensational form throughout the tournament, scoring consistently and leading his team from the front. His outstanding performances have further strengthened his status as one of the greatest players in football history.
Messi has now taken his World Cup goal tally to 21. However, France forward Kylian Mbappé is closing the gap, having scored 19 World Cup goals. With his career still in progress, Mbappé remains in contention to equal or surpass Messi’s record in the future.
