In Thursday’s World Cup quarter-final against Morocco in Boston, Mbappé gave France the lead in the 60th minute. The ball curled slightly through the air and nestled into the net just inside the post.
The goal was Mbappé’s eighth of the tournament. Earlier in the match, he had also provided two assists.
Since 1966, Mbappé has become the first player to be involved in 10 goals in two different editions of the World Cup. He also recorded eight goals and two assists at the 2022 tournament.
With this goal, Mbappé moved to the top of the tournament’s scoring chart with eight goals. Lionel Messi is second, level on eight goals.
Mbappé has now scored 20 goals in 20 World Cup matches. Argentina captain Lionel Messi remains the all-time leader among active players with 21 goals in 31 World Cup appearances.
