Melbourne, 25 July — Two Bangladeshi youths, Md. Millat Hossain (21) and Md. Liton (32), were shot dead by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) at the Parshuram border in Feni district, Bangladesh. Another person, Md. Afsar (31), was injured in the incident.
The shooting occurred around midnight on Thursday (July 24) at the Bashpaduya border area of the upazila.
Millat’s body is currently at Feni General Hospital and will be handed over to the family after an autopsy.
On the other hand, Liton, who was critically injured, was taken to Bilonia Hospital in India’s Tripura state, where he later died.
Millat was the son of Yusuf Mia from the Bashpaduya area of Parshuram Municipality, while Liton was the son of Gachi Mia from the same village.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain, commander of Feni Battalion (4 BGB), confirmed the incident.
According to local sources, on Thursday night, Millat, Liton, Afsar, and their associates crossed Pillar 2164/3-S under the Guthuma BOP and entered Indian territory near the barbed wire fence. BSF personnel opened fire at them during this time. Locals rescued the injured and took them to Parshuram Upazila Health Complex and later to Feni General Hospital. Millat died while undergoing treatment there. Liton, who was taken to Bilonia Hospital in India, succumbed to his injuries as well.
Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Mosharaf Hossain stated that the Bashpaduya border is known for smuggling activities. Upon receiving news of the shooting, BGB personnel visited the site immediately. A formal protest will be lodged by the BGB. Meanwhile, arrangements are underway to bring back Liton’s body to Bangladesh.
