Melbourne, August 11—Bangladesh Under-19 team clinched the Tri-Nation Series title in Harare by defeating South Africa U-19s by 33 runs in the final.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted a competitive total of 269 for 5 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, South Africa’s innings ended at 236 runs.
Winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Azizul Hakim Tamim chose to bat first. The openers gave the team a solid start, putting on 41 runs for the first wicket. However, Bangladesh lost two quick wickets afterward. Jawad scored 21, Rifat 16, and captain Azizul Tamim managed just 7.
The momentum shifted with a crucial 117-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Rizan Hossain and Kalam Siddique. Kalam scored a well-made 65, while Rizan narrowly missed a century, getting out for 95. In the latter part of the innings, Abdullah contributed 38 and Samiun added 13 runs to take the score to 269.
Chasing a target of 270, South Africa lost Zorich van Schalkwyk early for 19, but Adnaan Lagardien played an aggressive knock, scoring 40 off 31 balls. Captain Muhammad Bulbulia added 31, and Jason Rawls scored 35.
However, the middle order failed to capitalize, with Armaan Manack and Daniel Bosman both falling for 8 runs each.
Lower-order batters Bandile Mbatha (29) and Ntando Soni (34) fought back, but it wasn’t enough to reach the target.
For Bangladesh, Rizan Hossain was the star with the ball, taking five wickets. Al Fahad picked up three, while Swadhin Islam claimed two wickets.
