Shah Rukh Wins First National Film Award After Three Decades, Appears Salt-and-Pepper Hair

Darwin, September 24 — After more than three decades of ruling Hindi cinema, Bollywood’s King Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, has finally won the National Film Award.

On Tuesday, at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony in New Delhi, India’s President, Draupadi Murmu, presented Shah Rukh Khan with the Best Actor award for his performance in the film Jawan. Directed by Atlee, Jawan was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, grossing approximately ₹640 crores at the domestic box office and over ₹1000 crores worldwide.

At the award ceremony, Shah Rukh Khan appeared in a white shirt and black suit, with his hair showing a salt-and-pepper look, which sparked a buzz on social media. It is speculated that this new look is for his upcoming film King.

A plaque in front of Shah Rukh Khan read “Shree Shah Rukh Khan,” creating an emotional moment for both the actor and his fans.

Upon receiving the award, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Receiving the National Film Award is an unforgettable honor in my life. I will cherish this moment forever.”

Earlier, Shah Rukh had been honored with several prestigious awards such as the Padma Shri, France’s Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, and the Légion d’Honneur, but this is his first National Film Award.

On the same stage, actress Rani Mukerji received the Best Actress award for her performance in Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway. This was also her first National Film Award.

Vikrant Massey won the Best Actor award for his performance in Twelve Fell, and thus, Shah Rukh shared the award with him.

According to the rules of the National Film Awards, in case of a joint win, both winners receive individual medals and certificates, but the cash prize of ₹2 lakh is divided equally between the two. Hence, Shah Rukh and Vikrant will each receive ₹1 lakh.
