DHAKA: Popular actor Mosharraf Karim is set to explore a completely new facet of acting, playing the role of a stand-up comedian in the Chorki Original film, “Dimlight”. This marks the first time Karim will be seen portraying a performer who earns his livelihood solely by making people laugh, all while navigating a deeply personal crisis.
The film is directed by Saraf Ahmed Zibon and produced under the banner of Chabial.
The project has been heavily teased on Chorki’s verified Facebook page, with hints about Karim’s “new avatar” since November 20, followed by the cryptic clue: “Life is a joke, and the biggest joke is the midlife crisis.” The official poster, released on November 25, solidified the theme with the caption, “Midlife crisis—oops, Dimlight crisis!”
Director Zibon explained the film’s symbolic title, noting that a midlife crisis is presented as a “Dimlight crisis.” He suggests that just as balanced, moderate light is needed to see clearly, “Dimlight” aims to help the audience understand the “unseen problems” hidden beneath the surface of everyday life.
Karim himself offered a philosophical take on the narrative, describing life as being “covered in layers—from everyday wrappings like sugar, toothpaste, or school fees for children.” He explained that relationships and love get hidden beneath these layers, and it sometimes takes a “jolt to realize the essence of life.”
Karim is supported by Tanzika Amin and Parsa Evana. Amin felt the story was “very timely and needs to be told now,” highlighting that the events are familiar and relatable to the audience. The film marks Evana’s first appearance on the Chorki platform, who praised the “very fresh story, with confusion, humor, and crisis.”
“Dimlight” is a chapter in Chorki’s ambitious ‘Ministry of Love’ project, which explores various facets of relationships and features 12 films from 12 different directors.
