DHAKA : In a somber moment for the nation, the funeral procession of Begum Khaleda Zia, the Chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and three-time former Prime Minister, reached Manik Mia Avenue today.
The mortuary van, draped in the national flag of Bangladesh, entered the premises of the National Parliament Complex at 11:50 am on Wednesday (31 December).
The final journey began early this morning when the mortuary van departed from Evercare Hospital at 8:53 am. Under heavy security escort by law enforcement agencies, the vehicle first reached her residence, ‘Firoza’, at 11:04 am for a brief stay before proceeding to the Parliament grounds.
A large number of family members and senior BNP leaders have gathered at the janaza venue to pay their final respects. Among those present are:
Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of BNP.
Dr. Zubaida Rahman and Zaima Rahman.
Family members of the late Arafat Rahman Koko.
Strict security measures have been implemented throughout the capital, with police and security personnel lined on both sides of the streets from the hospital to the Parliament Complex to manage the massive influx of mourners.
