From wanting to be a physicist to starring in blockbuster films — Yash Rohan’s rise is as much about courage as it is about talent.

Yash Rohan was born on 22 December 1994 in Arambag, Dhaka, into a family steeped in the arts. His father, Naresh Bhuiyan, is a veteran actor, photojournalist, theatre director, and writer, whose career spans decades. His mother, Shilpi Sharkar Apu, is a respected actress, playwright, and educator, known particularly for her rich contributions to television drama.
Despite this artistic environment, Yash once shared that he never envisioned a life in showbiz. He was passionate about physics in childhood, voicing an early dream of becoming a physicist. He pursued an engineering degree at BRAC University and even worked briefly as a teacher before his media journey took flight.
Yash’s entry into the creative world began in 2015, when he directed and acted in short films such as Doob. A year later, he made The Red Note, further honing his skills behind and in front of the camera.
His feature film debut came in Swapnajaal (2018), directed by Gias Uddin Selim, where he starred opposite Pori Moni. His portrayal of “Apu” drew praise even as he later admitted to being self-critical of his own performance.
Subsequent projects expanded his range:
Networker Baire (2021), where he played Ratul — a role he regards as one of his favorites.
Poran (2022), a romantic thriller which became one of the highest-grossing Bangladeshi films, solidifying his commercial and critical appeal.
In 2024, he starred in Forget Me Not, a psychological romantic drama on the OTT platform Chorki, co-starring Mehazabien Chowdhury.
In addition, Yash has ventured into web series formats like Panch Phoron, in which he starred in an episode titled “Donor” — a dramatic story about organ donation.
Although many know Yash for his romantic roles, he sees himself first as an actor who embraces all genres. In interviews, he’s emphasized that whether it’s film, drama, or OTT, his core task is the same: telling a story authentically.
He also surprised many by taking on horror in the Procholito series — particularly Hatbodol. Despite not being a horror fan, he accepted the role after being intrigued by the script, and the reception affirmed his versatility.
Addressing criticism of nepotism, Yash has been candid. He acknowledges that having parents in the industry creates opportunities, but insists the real challenge is staying and thriving on your own merit. “I survive in the industry on my own merit,” he told Prothom Alo.
Forget Me Not (2024) — released on Chorki on 5 September — stands out for its psychological depth and emotional complexity.
Adom (2022/2023) — directed by Abu Towhid Hiron — is one of his more recent cinematic endeavors, where he plays a role that explores a darker, more introspective side of himself.
Yash Rohan may have started as a reluctant actor, but today he’s among the faces redefining Bangladeshi cinema. With a foundation in artistic lineage and a willingness to push into new genres, his trajectory is not just upward — it’s expansive. He questions, experiments, and takes risks — and audiences continue to respond with appreciation.
While he remains relatively young in his career, Yash’s statement holds strong:
“Whether I do a drama for YouTube, a feature film, or for OTT — my job is acting. The platform doesn’t change my responsibility.”
