Brisbane’s Iconic Retro Arcade Saved by New Partnership
Australia’s largest retro video game collection has been saved. One Up Arcade moves to Laser Force Woolloongabba after facing closure and eviction.
BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA — The highly charged atmosphere of the Ashes rivalry took an unusual turn at Brisbane Airport on Saturday, where a security guard assigned to the England cricket team became embroiled in an ugly, unnecessary confrontation with a Channel 7 camera operator.
The incident occurred as the England players, preparing to depart for Adelaide ahead of the Third Test, were being filmed by camera operator Nick Carrigan in a routine exercise.
Despite Carrigan maintaining a respectful distance, the security guard—described by Carrigan as “overzealous”—made it his mission to block and disrupt the shots. The situation quickly escalated beyond simple obstruction, with the guard heard yelling: “Get out of my face mate, out my face, out my face!”
The confrontation, which dragged on across the terminal, reached a bizarre peak when the security guard was observed pushing away the very England players he was meant to be protecting in his efforts to block the camera.
Channel 7, which confirmed its crew had worked closely with the team all week without incident in Noosa, expressed shock at the confrontation.
“I understand he’s got a job to do but yeah that was totally uncalled for,” Carrigan said of the security guard’s behavior.
The Seven Network issued a strong statement following the incident: “While conducting routine filming in a public space, the camera operator was physically confronted despite acting respectfully and professionally. The safety and wellbeing of our staff is paramount. This matter is being taken seriously and is now being managed through the appropriate channels.”
In contrast to the hostility, England’s players remained unbothered by the media attention despite two heavy losses. Upon arriving in Adelaide, captain Ben Stokes was relaxed and ready, telling reporters: “We’re refreshed and ready to go.”
