Welcome 1433 Bangla Year
Darwin, April 14: The Bangla year 1433 has begun with a message of new hope. The Bengali New Year is being welcomed across the country…
RAJSHAHI : The northern district of Rajshahi is currently experiencing the harshest bite of winter yet, recording the country’s lowest temperature of the season at a freezing 7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday morning (January 6).
The local Meteorological Office confirmed the reading at 6:00 AM, noting a sharp 3-degree drop from Monday’s minimum of 10°C. Despite a relatively clear sky with minimal fog, a biting, icy wind has significantly intensified the sensation of cold, making outdoor activities nearly impossible for many residents.
Life across the district—from the bustling city centers to the quiet rural villages—has come to a virtual standstill. Although sunrise was scheduled for 6:47 AM, thick cloud cover and atmospheric haze kept the sun hidden until well after 10:00 AM.
The narrow gap between the day and night temperatures has worsened the situation. On Monday, the maximum temperature reached only 19.5°C, leaving a difference of just 8.5 degrees. This lack of daytime warmth means the ground and buildings never fully heat up, leading to a persistent, “bone-chilling” environment.
Meteorological officials reported that morning humidity reached 100 percent. This saturated air, combined with the northern winds, creates a “wet cold” that penetrates clothing more easily, leading to severe discomfort and health risks for those exposed to the elements.
As the cold wave persists, local authorities are advising residents, particularly the elderly and children, to stay indoors and keep warm.
