LOS ANGELES : James Cameron has solidified his status as the king of the modern blockbuster as Avatar: Fire and Ash officially crossed the $1 billion mark at the global box office this weekend.
According to industry estimates released Sunday, the third installment of the Pandora saga maintained its iron grip on North American theaters, adding another $40 million in ticket sales. The film has now amassed $306 million domestically and a staggering $777 million in international markets, bringing its global haul to $1.08 billion.
Fire and Ash marks the fourth film in James Cameron’s career to surpass the billion-dollar threshold, joining the original Avatar, Avatar: The Way of Water, and Titanic.
The film sees the return of Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington as Neytiri and Jake Sully. This chapter follows the Sully family as they confront a formidable new foe—the “Ash People”—who threaten the delicate balance of life on Pandora.
