LITTLE ROCK : One incredibly lucky lottery player in Arkansas has received the ultimate Christmas gift, becoming the sole winner of a staggering $1.817 billion ($2.7 billion AUD) Powerball jackpot on Christmas Eve.
The historic win ends a 46-drawing drought that began in September, marking only the second time a Powerball jackpot of this magnitude has been won by a ticket sold in the state of Arkansas.
The Winning Numbers The winning numbers for the Wednesday, December 24 drawing were 4, 25, 31, 52, 59, with the red Powerball 19. The Power Play multiplier was 2.
“Congratulations to the newest Powerball jackpot winner! This is truly an extraordinary, life-changing prize,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair.
A Nationwide Windfall While Arkansas claims the top prize, the holiday spirit was shared across the country. Eight players—located in California, Indiana, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia—each won $1 million. Additionally, 114 tickets won $50,000, while 31 tickets doubled that prize to $100,000 via the Power Play option.
The jackpot now resets to $20 million for the next drawing on Saturday.

Forget the simple “real or plastic” carbon debate: scientists reveal that Christmas tree plantations play a vital role in biodiversity and sustainable land use. These young forests provide refuge for declining farmland birds (like yellowhammers) and support local economies, fulfilling an important ecological niche, making a real tree often the greener, more nuanced choice.
