Sports Desk : Spain booked their place in the Round of 16 of the World Cup with another dominant performance, defeating Austria 3-0 in the knockout stage.
Mikel Oyarzabal scored twice for the three-time world champions. He opened the scoring in the 36th minute after being set up by Marc Cucurella. Oyarzabal completed his brace in the 89th minute, once again finishing off an assist from Cucurella.
Between Oyarzabal’s two goals, Pedro Porro added Spain’s second in the 66th minute, powering home a header from Álex Baena’s cross.
Spain dominated the match from start to finish. They enjoyed 64 percent possession and registered 23 shots, with 10 on target. Austria, in contrast, managed only five attempts, none of which tested the goalkeeper.
Austria offered little threat throughout the contest, as Spain comfortably secured a convincing victory to advance to the next round. The 2010 World Cup champions progressed with confidence after another commanding display.
