Darwin, 12 January :
Young Hollywood actor Timothée Chalamet has won a Golden Globe Award for the first time for his performance in a leading comedy role. He received the honor at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, held Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California, USA.
At the ceremony, Chalamet won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama for his role in the film Marty Supreme. In this category, his strongest competitor was Leonardo DiCaprio for One Battle After Another.
Directed by Josh Safdie, the comedy film Marty Supreme features Chalamet in the role of a gifted table tennis player. Although he had previously been nominated for the Golden Globe four times, this marks the first time he has taken home the trophy. He was nominated for Call Me by Your Name, Beautiful Boy, Wonka, and last year’s A Complete Unknown.
As a result, this achievement has become especially meaningful for Chalamet.
While accepting the award, Chalamet said emotionally,
“My father taught me from a young age to be grateful. He always said, ‘Be grateful for what you have.’ Even when I returned empty-handed from previous award ceremonies, that lesson taught me to keep my head held high. Honestly, those losses have made this moment even sweeter.”
In his speech, he expressed gratitude to the director, screenwriters, and his co-stars. Offering special thanks to director Josh Safdie, Chalamet said,
“Josh Safdie—thank you from the bottom of my heart. I’m grateful for this role and for the trust you placed in me.”
